PLACES TO GO AND PEOPLE TO SEE

Perivale Gallery

Perivale Gallery.jpg

Nestled on the south shore of Lake Kagawong, Perivale Gallery is home to some of Canada’s best artists. From your first glimpse entering the lush woods, to entering the gallery itself, expect light and colour to abound in this natural setting. Trip Advisor considers Perivale Gallery a ‘must see’ destination on Manitoulin Island and the gallery has the Marketing awards to prove it. Whether you are looking for a modest painting to begin your collection…or a sophisticated piece to add to your existing collection, you’ll find what you’re looking for here. Expect the unusual…embrace unique. Website: www.perivalegallery.com for more information And…while you are there…check out Laurel’s art! Oil painting is what she does when she’s not working hard at finding people homes and vacation properties on Manitoulin.

Nails By Talia

They say everyone has a story. I met Natalia about 2 years ago, and she has become someone I greatly respect and admire. She and her family are refugees from the Ukraine and at times, she has worked 3 jobs to keep everything afloat in uncertain times. She is a strong, determined, and all-round lovely woman. But here’s the thing…she is also the best nail tech I have ever had…and believe me I’ve had plenty over the years. Recently, when I went for my usual mani/pedi, she told me it was time for my nails to have a rest and instead of collecting a well earned pay cheque, she sent me on my way with naked nails…because integrity is more important to her than the pay cheque.

Check out her website at https://www.nbynatalia.com/. If you need a manicure or pedicure, Natalia is simply the best.

Puretique

Oh my goodness…Wayne is the best hair stylist I have ever had and somehow he is located here in little ole Kagawong!  So many years experience and incredibly creative.  I can’t recommend him highly enough.  My hair has never been this easy to manage…it just falls into place.  His background in styling and teaching shines through with every client.

As an artist, I always love to work with local Manitoulin scenery. Craig Jackson is a fairly new photographer and largely self taught, but you wouldn’t know it from the creativity and the work he produces.  And many of the photos on this website are courtesy of Craig and his big

His photography captures life on Manitoulin in an exceptionally artistic manner and creates interest that goes far beyond the amateur level. I find myself seeing more detail every time I look against one of his photos…and a desire to create my own art from his art.

Check out www.islandpics.ca or Craig Jackson Photography to enjoy more of his work. He has a galleryat 31 Maplewood Trail Kagawong, Ontario. His email is csjackson29@gmail.com

Buttercup Icecreamery and Candy Store

Best homemade waffle cones on the Island.  Honestly, the best.  Sometimes they have dairy free ice cream too and some gluten free items.   Grab and go lunches and also a nostalgic candy store.  Don’t be surprised if you bring home as much candy as the kids do.  Huge selection of hard to find candy from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.  Yummy!

Manitoulin Chocolate                Works

Located in ‘downtown’ Kagawong, this store is also a family favourite, for their coffee but especially for their chocolate which is made on-site. This artisan chocolate factory is established in a quaint century dwelling, right on the main street of Kagawong, near the farmers market and marina. It’s so hard to choose from all the treats, so plan to pick up a large selection to satisfy your sweet tooth!

FINNIA CHOCOLATE

if you want chocolate made right on site with creativity and flair…this little Gore Bay business is a must see.  As a chocoholic, sometimes a girl just needs the right chocolate and this is where to find it.  Right beside Split Rail Brewery near the marina in Gore Bay.

Manitoulin Physio

Real estate is not stressful…said absolutely no Realtor EVER. Our job requires knowledge, patience with those going through the process of buyer or selling a home and the ability to handle the unexpected….Lisa Corbiere is the best masseuse I’ve ever had and when the stress gets to me, I need to get to Lisa. Lisa is caring, compassionate and above all incredibly talented at what she clearly loves to do. She is located at Manitoulin Physio in M’Chigeeng.

The dentist you've always wanted...Dr. Bryn Casson

As someone with a dental phobia (if they can put a man on the moon, why can’t they make a silent drill…why??), this man is the epitome of kindness, patience and gentle dentistry.  I’ve gone from dental phobia to looking forward to seeing Dr. Casson and his staff.

Creative Island Photography

As an artist, I am always looking for photos to paint from…and when I want something truly unique and beautiful, I always look for what Peter has been doing recently. Winner of many awards, including National and Canadian Geographic, his work goes beyond the usual sunrise/sunsets to embracing a unique angle on water and landscapes. His work is 100% professional, yet he takes the time to encourage even beginners. Check out his website at Creative Island Photography for some simply amazing views of our natural world. Peter regularly leads photography courses and workshops for novice and enthusiast photographers and travels across North America as an Olympus Visionary providing lectures and seminars on landscape, wildlife, and astrophotography. As owner of Creative Island Photography, Peter has turned a life-long interest into a second career.

Bridal Veil Falls

Even in the winter, Bridal Veil Falls is iconic.  Located in Kagawong, you can view either from the top of the falls, or take a gentle hike up the trail from 'downtown' Kagawong.  Worth the hike...worth seeing many times over.
